Car Boot Scanner Working title In development

Know roughly what it is worth before you hand over the coins.

An iPhone app for car boot sales, charity shops and the loft. Photograph an item, get an AI estimate range in pounds and a note on how confident the estimate is.

Ask a question

An illustration of what the result screen shows. It is not a screenshot. Real screenshots will replace it once the app is ready.

What it does

You take one to three photos of an item: the front, the back or label, and a close-up. The app sends the photos to our server, which asks an AI model to identify the item and give a rough UK resale range. You get the item name, its likely category and attributes, an estimate range from low to high in GBP, and a one-line reason for the confidence level.

From there you can note what you paid to see a rough profit check, save the item to your collection, and share a simple card with the photo and the estimate.

What the estimate is, and is not

The range is produced by an AI model from your photos and general knowledge of the UK second-hand market. It is labelled "AI estimate" on every screen and it comes with a confidence level.

It is not a valuation, not an appraisal and not a sold price. The app does not have access to verified sold-price data. For anything that matters, check recent sold prices yourself before you buy or sell. The app gives you a one-tap link that opens eBay UK's own sold listings search in Safari for the identified item. Nothing from that page is read or stored by the app.

For items that look valuable, or in categories where fakes are common, the app reminds you to get the item checked before paying a lot.

Built for the UK

Pounds, not dollars. British English throughout. Selling tips cover eBay UK, Vinted and Facebook Marketplace, with fee assumptions shown rather than hidden. Low-value finds get a suggestion to bundle into a job lot.

Your photos and your data

No account is needed. The app uses an anonymous install identifier rather than your name or email. Photos are resized and stripped of location and camera metadata before upload, processed for the single request, and not stored on our servers. Your scan history lives on your phone, and you can delete it and any server records for your install from Settings at any time.

AI provider
Anthropic (Claude), via our own server. Your photos are never sent with any identifier.

Aggregate usage counts only, with no personal data, through TelemetryDeck.

Pricing

Your first three scans are free. After that, unlimited scanning needs a subscription. The exact price, any free trial and how to cancel are shown in the app before you pay, and you can cancel in your Apple ID settings. Saved scans and share cards keep working without a subscription.
